2017 WAS A BIG YEAR FOR US AT DOWNTOWN INDY, INC.
Take a moment and reflect on a few of our highlights from the last year below.
LAUNCHED MILE SQUARE ECONOMIC IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT PETITION
Months of marketing, advocacy and property-owner outreach in Q1 and Q2 led to the Q3 release of the Economic Improvement District petition for the Mile Square, along with the mobilization of an inaugural EID board. EID support continued to grow in Q4 moving closer to a majority of owner signatures with indications of a successful petition in early 2018.
EXPANDED VISIBILITY WITH PUBLIC AND PARTNERS
DII engaged with the public at record numbers increasing social media engagement and overhauling its website to make it more intuitive and responsive as the primary call-to-action for marketing. The Events Team assessed events in public spaces and drafted plans to better assist partners and the City.
INCREASED MEMBERSHIP & LAUNCHED INDIVIDUAL PATRON PROGRAM
Reaching nearly 100 percent of fundraising/corporate membership goals, staff‑ also transitioned from Dwell to a new/improved individual member model. The Patron Program welcomes individuals who seek to “Celebrate – Participate – Advocate” for Downtown through increased engagement.
INITIATED MODERATELY-PRICED RESIDENTIAL PLAN
DII launched IN-fill in 2017, a design completion to spur development of moderately-priced housing Downtown to support the expansion of residential options for urban living.Staff‑ partnered with building and architectural associations and is now primed to scale up in 2018 for even greater livability outcomes.
LAUNCHED RETAIL COLLABORATIONS AND PROSPECTING
With Downtown’s growing residential population wanting greater retail opportunities, DII led a retail assessment, assembled Downtown retail brokers and secured additional City funding to launch a strategy that included targeted marketing to prospective retailers.
CREATED EXPANDED HOMELESS OUTREACH CAMPAIGN
DII funded and launched Street Reach Indy in partnership with CHIP, a newly-branded campaign that coordinates resources using panhandling data and community fundraising to better assist outreach workers. The campaign is already assisting the homeless and panhandlers to get them off‑ the street and into social service care and/or into eventual permanent housing.
