From monumental runs to unforgettable holiday traditions, November is filled with exciting events to add to your calendar. Check out a few of our favorite picks for the month below.

1. CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (Nov. 4)

Are you ready to #BeMonumental? Take part in one of the 20 largest marathons in the United States. Marathon not your speed? Check out the half marathon, 5K or Kids Fun Run. Cheer on runners along the course – it winds through Downtown Indianapolis and surrounding neighborhoods.

2. Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure (Begins Nov. 18)

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians & Western Art’s magical holiday train exhibit is back beginning Nov. 18. Watch trains pass through iconic replicas of Downtown locations such as Lucas Oil Stadium, Monument Circle and more.

3. Spirit & Place Festival (Nov. 3 – Nov. 12)

Winner of the NUVO Cultural Vision Award and the Indiana Achievement Award, the Spirit & Place Festival takes place Nov. 3 – 12. The Festival features more than 50 events for all ages at different locations around Downtown. The theme this year is Power, and includes topics such as The Power of Imagination and The Power of Food.

4. Veterans Day Parade (Nov. 11)

Take time to honor those who have served our country at the Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11 beginning at 11:45 a.m. More than 80 units will march starting at Michigan and Pennsylvania streets, move south on Pennsylvania Street to New York Street, west to Meridian Street and finish at North Street. In addition, a musical prelude will take place at 10:30 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m., both on the north steps of the Indiana War Memorial. Veterans can join Downtown Indy, Inc. during the installation of Circle of Lights at the Soliders and Sailors Monument for free donuts starting at 9 a.m.

5. Winterlights (Nov. 19 – Jan. 7)

Start a new tradition this holiday season with Winterlights at the Newfields Garden. The event will feature a multi-sensory, outdoor light experience for visitors of all ages.

6. Christmas at the Zoo (Nov. 24 – Dec. 30)

Head to the Indianapolis Zoo for Christmas at the Zoo presented by Donatos and Teachers Credit Union. The Zoo opens at noon with holiday activities from 5 – 9 p.m. each day. Visit Saint Nick in Santa’s Study presented by Chick-Fil-A, listen to carolers around a warm campfire, eat some delicious treats and more.

7. Celebration Crossing (Nov. 24 – Jan. 7)

The Indiana State Museum comes alive with holiday merriment starting Nov. 24 with Celebration Crossing. Children of all ages can ride the Santa Claus Express, make crafts to take home and gaze into holidays past from a recreated L.S. Ayers store window.

8. Circle of Lights (Nov. 24)

Join generations of families on Monument Circle on Nov. 24 to celebrate the lighting of 4,787 (new LED) lights strung from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument. USA Today listed the Circle of Lights® as one of the “10 Best Holiday Attractions.” The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. and the Monument light-up will occur at approximately 7:55 p.m. Entertainers chosen from statewide auditions will share the stage with Santa and with Sandi Patty, host of the Indianapolis Symphony’s IPL Yuletide Celebration, as well as various other Indiana performers. The event will be broadcast live on WTHR from 7 – 8 p.m. After Circle of Lights, head over to Carson’s Department Store for Selfies with Santa from 8 – 10 p.m.
