Can you believe the mid-year is already here? There’s still plenty of fun to come in Downtown Indy. And if you love your planner as much as I do, you’ll want to pull it out and mark down some of my favorite events left in 2017!
The “Best Four Days in Gaming” is back for its 50th convention Downtown! With more than 500 exhibitors, 19,000+ events and an exclusive concert from They Might Be Giants, this event is selling out fast (hurry and get your tickets). And if you aren’t going to the main event, I encourage you to come out to Georgia Street and experience the convention excitement.
Motorcyclists from across the state gather in Downtown Indy for one of the best events on two-wheels! Bring your bike and join the motorcycle mania or just explore and enjoy the sights and sounds. Spectators are welcome to walk around at this free event on Meridian and Georgia Street from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. and marvel at the impressive choppers and sport bikes.
This free festival on Georgia Street is a great addition to your Labor Day weekend plans! With live music, food, beverages and a kid’s zone, you’ll find fun for the whole family to enjoy. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to visit with working men and women from around Central Indiana and learn about career opportunities.
Head to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this October for the second annual Red Bull Air Race. This competition takes place over eight races in four different continents, and is back in Indy for a high-speed weekend. Tickets begin at $35.
Billy Joel, U2 The Joshua Tree Tour, Lady Gaga and More!
These are only a few of the major music events that will have you singing and dancing into 2018. Billy Joel in Concert comes to Bankers Life Fieldhouse Nov. 3 with Lady Gaga two days later on Nov. 5. And expanding their tour, U2 The Joshua Tree Tour lands at Lucas Oil Stadium on Nov. 9. With plenty more concerts at tons of downtown venues, there’s plenty of opportunity to get your jam on.
Celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, one of the 20 largest marathons in the US. Along with a half marathon, 5K and kid’s fun run, race weekend is full of events for everyone to enjoy, including the Indianapolis Monumental Health and Fitness Expo at the Indiana Convention Center.

Be sure to add my favorite Downtown Indy holiday staple to your Thanksgiving Weekend plans. You definitely can’t miss seeing 4,784 colored light bulbs come to life on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Beginning with the lighting the Friday after Thanksgiving and lasting through early January, millions of sightseers will get to soak up this stellar spectacle.
Ring in the 2018 on Georgia Street with the fourth annual Downtown Indy’s New Year’s Eve Celebration. The evening is filled with live music, food and drinks, fireworks and a unique midnight extravaganza. And did I mention, the IndyCar drop?!
