The Indy Criterium was founded in 2010 by Jennifer Cvar and Wayde Klein, both criterium racers at the time. They both noted a void of urban races in Indianapolis and conceptualized an epic race course in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, utilizing a portion of Monument Circle. Cvar and Klein knew the course would appeal to the local racers and a festival vibe would attract spectators.
Over the years, the race has grown in both size and popularity among racers across the Midwest. Since 2013, we have attracted over 500 racers and thousands of spectators, fans and volunteers.
The Indy Criterium is more than just a cycling race. It is a celebration of "all things biking" in our community. Our planning committee is entirely volunteer-driven and 100% of the event proceeds benefit Freewheelin' Community Bikes.
