Motorcycles, lights, festivals, concerts, sporting events and more bring thousands of people Downtown Aug. 26 - 28

*Monumental Weekend: these are event-heavy weekends designated by the Downtown Indy, Inc. staff where high foot and vehicular traffic will likely occur – weekends that draw additional Downtown visitors above and beyond a regular weekend. More than 220,000 visitors and residents are anticipated over three days.

IN Light IN Aug. 26 & 27
From 8:52 p.m. to 1:02 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, and Saturday, Aug. 27, Indianapolis will harness the power of light, technology and creativity for a world-class event on the Canal. IN Light IN is a free, two-day interactive light festival featuring artists and performers from Indianapolis and beyond. This event celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis Foundation. Expected attendance: 30,000

Motorcycles on Meridian
Downtown Indy, Inc.'s Motorcycles on Meridian presented by Thunder Roads Indiana will take over Monument Circle and South Meridian Street Saturday, Aug. 27 from noon – midnight. Bikes will be on site, from stylish Harleys and Ducatis to sport bikes to motor scooters. A Motorcycle Marketplace will be set up on Georgia Street. Admission is free.  Expected attendance: 70,000

The inaugural Indianapolis Wine Festival is a two-day festival at American Legion Mall Aug. 26 & 27. Attendees can enjoy tastings, expert and sommelier-led seminars and pairing tips. Expected attendance: 5,000

IndyFringe Festivalcontinues this weekend at Downtown theatres, especially throughout Mass Ave. With eight different venues, 64 performing groups and 384 performances, this festival is a cultural catalyst for the Indy arts community. Expected attendance is 5,000 this weekend.

Dig IN – A Taste of Indiana takes place Aug. 28 from noon – 4 p.m. at Military Park. Attendees can sample locally-produced food and drink prepared by more than 40 world-class chefs. Expected attendance: 5,000

Devour Downtown offers three-course, value-priced menus at more than 70 various Indianapolis restaurants. Expected attendance: hundreds of diners at numerous Downtown restaurants

The Center for Leadership Development will provide parents and students a comprehensive understanding of the college readiness process at the College Prep Conference & College Fair Saturday, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Indiana Convention Center. Registration is closed; no walk-ins. Expected attendance: 1,500

The Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park

Aug. 26: O.A.R. with special guests Stephen Kellogg and The Hunts
Aug. 27: Needtobreathe with special guests Mat Kearney, Welshly Arms and John Mark McMillan
Aug. 28: Rachel Platten with special guests Alex Angelo and Liberty Deep Down
Expected attendance: 15,000 total

Prepare for the Colts preseason game at the Bud Light Tailgate on Georgia Street from 4 - 7 p.m. Admission is free. Estimated attendance: 2,000

The Indianapolis Indians will host Louisville Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:15 p.m. Expected attendance: 13,500

The Indianapolis Coltswill take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday, Aug. 27at 7 p.m. Expected attendance: 60,000

The Indiana Feverwill play Washington Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Fever will honor Tamika Catchings on her fourth Olympic gold medal.  Expected attendance: 12,000


Traffic Information

Friday, Aug. 26
The south lane of the west block of Georgia Street will be closed 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. for Food Truck Friday.

Saturday, Aug. 27
The Veterans Charity Ride will result in the closure of Michigan Street between Meridian and Pennsylvania streets from 8 - 11:30 a.m.

South Street between Capitol Avenue and West Street will be closed 11 a.m. - midnight.

Motorcycles on Meridian will result in the following closures from 11 a.m. – midnight Saturday:

  • Meridian Street between South and Vermont streets
  • Monument Circle and spokes
  • Jackson Place between McCrea and Meridian streets
  • South lane of Georgia Street between McCrea and Scioto streets
  • Chesapeake Street between Meridian and Pennsylvania streets
  • Georgia Street – portions of the East and Center blocks

The west block of Georgia Street will be closed 1 - 9 p.m. for Bud Light Tailgate on Georgia Street.

Special Events
Indianapolis Indians games may cause delays around Victory Field Friday evening.

Concerts at the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn may cause delays around White River State Park Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The Indianapolis Wine Festival may cause delays around American Legion Mall Friday and Saturday evenings.

An Indiana Fever game may cause delays around Bankers Life Fieldhouse Saturday evening.

An Indianapolis Colts game may cause delays around Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday afternoon and evening.

Dig IN: A Taste of Indiana may cause delays around Military Park Sunday.
