The official performing arts season has begun. Downtown Indianapolis is home to some of the best theatres and performances in the state. Grab your pen and start filling your calendar with must-see shows.

Indiana Repertory Theatre

The IRT is known for high-quality professional theatre and strives to offer a variety of subject matter/style, cultural views and emotional experiences, all created to deliver long-held memories. The 2019-2020 season will not disappoint. Twelve Angry Men starts the season with a young man’s life hanging in the balance as a trial jury meets to debate his guilt or innocence. The play runs through Sept. 29. The season continues with The Little Choo-Choo that Thinks She Can; And So We Walked: An Artist’s Journey Along the Trail of Tears; Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and more in 2020.

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

The ISO delivers world-class, creative programming year-round at Hilbert Circle Theatre. From Classical and Pops to Films and Symfuny, there’s a series for every interest. The Opening Night Gala welcomes child prodigy Alma Deutscher Sept. 14. Each weekend find a new program including Art Meets Music: Pictures at an Exhibition Sept. 20 & 21; Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Sept. 27 – 29; Vienna to Broadway Oct. 4 & 5 and the list goes on.

Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix is a place where people can expect to be challenged, engaged and inspired. The 2019-2020 season is no exception. The Legend of Georgia McBride heats up the stage with sequined stilettos and humor Sept. 12 – Oct. 6. Get your tickets now for the annual fundraiser A Phoenix Affair: High Heels & High Rollers Sept. 21. The season continues with Vino Veritas, Winston’s Big Day: A Very Phoenix Xmas 14 and several more.

The Cabaret

Enjoy top-notch entertainment with top-shelf cocktails at every Cabaret performance. First up is French vocalist Cyrille Aimee singing Stephen Sondheim’s songbook Sept. 20 & 21. The series never slows down including Tony Yazbeck Sept. 27 & 28; Katharine Mehrling Oct. 3; Lillias White Oct. 11 & 12 and other phenoms through the end of the year.

Broadway in Indianapolis

The hottest shows off Broadway can be found right here In Indy with Broadway in Indianapolis. Be uplifted with the heartwarming story of timeless traditions that define faith and family in Fiddler on the Roof Oct. 1 – 6 at Old National Centre. Next, the most anticipated play of the decade makes its way Downtown Dec. 10 – 29 when Hamilton taking the stage. The series continues with Come From Away, The Play that Goes Wrong, Cats and Anastasia.

The Indianapolis Artsgarden

The beautiful Artsgarden attached to Circle Centre mall offers year-round free musical and dance performances, as well as exhibitions, for all to enjoy. Stop by on your lunch break to catch some local talent.
