Experience holiday events for less than $15 over school break back Downtown

The kids are home for holiday break. You’ve run out of things to keep them occupied with at home. What do you do now? Spend some quality family time without breaking the bank with these fun and inexpensive events back Downtown.

Festival of Trees

Enjoy the Indiana Historical Society's Festival of Trees Nov. 13 through Jan. 4 featuring 50 elaboratively-decorated trees. Select Friday evenings will offer extended hours to see the trees by night. Take part in scavenger hunts for The Elf on the Shelf or the 10 pickle ornaments hidden in trees. Enjoy virtual story time with Santa. Additionally, a new virtual experience will allow you to view the trees on any mobile device for free. In-person admission is $13; $12 seniors; $5 youth.

Christmas Nights of Lights at the Indiana State Fairgrounds

Head out to the Indiana State Fairgrounds’ Christmas Nights of Lights for a 2-mile car ride through more than 1 million lights synchronized to traditional and newer Christmas music played through your car stereo. The event takes place Nov. 13 through Jan. 3. All ages are welcome to attend this family-friendly event. $7 each or $30 per carload.

Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure

All aboard! Experience the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art’s magical holiday model train exhibit Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure.Take a journey through a locomotive wonderland as trains wind past icons of Indianapolis and the American West Nov. 23 through Jan. 20. Exhibit is included with admission: buy online for $15, $12 seniors; $8 youth.

Tropical Holidays at the Conservatory

The Garfield Park Conservatory will present a festive display of poinsettias and lights Nov. 27 – Dec. 31. Get into the holiday spirit and take a stroll through the Tropical Conservatory. Purchase timed admissions reservations in advance for $4.

Shining a Light Holiday Presentation

Take the family to see the Shining a Light Holiday presentation on Monument Circle at 6:30, 8 and 10 p.m. every night Nov. 28 through Dec. 31. While Downtown, take a selfie with the Circle of Lights décor in the background, grab a bite at your favorite restaurant and shop Mass Ave or Circle Centre for unique gifts. FREE

Festive FIlms: It's a Wonderful Life

Witness the timeless holiday classic as Downtown Indy, Inc. partners with the Athenaeum Foundation and Indy Film Fest for Festive Films. Enjoy It's a Wonderful Life Dec. 19 at the Athenaeum's Basile Theater at 6 p.m.

Masks will be mandatory when not eating and drinking. Grab a table for two or four. Tickets are $5 and proceeds benefit Downtown holiday décor and the Athenaeum Foundation.

Jolly Days Winter Wonderland

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis offers its beloved Jolly Days Winter Wonderland for all ages. Enjoy holiday family favorites including sock skating, an ice castle and a new socially-distanced Santa visit experience in a magical, but safe way. Receive $5 admission Thursday, Dec. 3 from 4 – 8 p.m. and FREE admission Thursday, Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Holiday Market on the Circle

Mark your calendar for a free Downtown Holiday Market on the Circle, tentatively set for Saturday, Dec. 12 from 4 – 7 p.m.  Local artists and vendors will be selling unique gifts to complete your holiday list. Listen to festive music, sip hot chocolate/coffee and take in the Shining A Light Holiday presentation at 6:30 p.m. FREE
