First Friday Gallery Openings

Support Indianapolis women in art on First Friday, March 1 from 6-9 p.m. at Downtown institutions including Long-Sharp Gallery and the Harrison Center. Tamar Kander and Amy Kirchner, the artists behind Silence and Sunlight at Long-Sharp Gallery, will take part in an artist reception to present their breathtaking collection of abstract paintings. The Harrison Center will feature a total of six gallery openings with artistic styles ranging from mixed-media to digital illustration. Find a full list of First Friday experiences here.

Women Artists of the Eiteljorg

Celebrate Women's History Month at the Eiteljorg Museum with exclusive gallery tours highlighting works by women artists in its collection on March 2 and 9 from 2-3 p.m. For an in-depth guided tour of the Eiteljorg exhibit Expressions of Life: Native Art in North America, museum attendees can join Hoback Curator of Great Lakes Native Cultures and Community Engagement Monica Raphael on Friday, March 8 from 12-1 p.m. Immerse yourself at the Eiteljorg with its diverse works highlighting stories of the West and Native American cultures. Tours are included with the price of standard admission and museum members get in free.

Title IX and Athletics at NCAA Hall of Champions

Discover the history of gender equity and the transformative impact of Title IX on women's education and sports at the NCAA Hall of Champions. Located in the heart of White River State Park, explore the institution’s detailed timeline display, tracing the Civil Rights law’s evolution and celebrating the pivotal moments and figures that have shaped college education and sports for NCAA student-athletes today. The exhibit is included with the price of admission during regular museum hours, Wednesday-Sunday.

The Power of Children: Making a Difference® at The Children’s Museum

Just a short drive from Downtown Indy, The Children’s Museum’s family-friendly exhibit The Power of Children: Making a Difference® showcases the inspiring stories of 20th-century children including Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges, Malala Yousafzai, and more. Experience Anne's message of hope during the Holocaust, Ruby's bravery in newly desegregated schools, and Malala's advocacy for female education, all demonstrating the impact of standing up for human rights. This exhibit is included with general admission and membership.

Network & Build Community During Educational Programming

“The Power of Native Women” with Heather Bruegl

Embark on a journey through history at the Eiteljorg Museum's special Women's History Month event on Saturday, March 2, featuring public historian, scholar, and activist Heather Bruegl. In an hour-long discussion from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Heather will present The Power of Native Women, featuring stories of trailblazing Native women who have helped shape a nation. Whether fighting alongside warriors or becoming doctors, take part in this inspiring celebration of Native women included with the price of museum admission.

International Women's Day with the Indiana Commission for Women

Presented by Event Chair Rupal Thanawala, the Indiana Commission for Women will host an event for International Women's Day on March 8 at the Indiana Government Center South building. This hybrid event will bring together inspiring speakers, thought-provoking discussions, and exciting activities from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s theme is #InspireInclusion to collectively forge inclusive environments for women to be valued and empowered. International Women's Day at Maven Space

Get ready to experience a celebration of unity and equality during International Women's Day, March 8, at the Maven Space in Downtown Indy! This all-day free admission event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. will feature open coworking space, a lunch service, and a reception finale with light bites, a “build your own” floral bar for $10, and a cash bar. “Six-Triple Eight” told by Charlotte Blake Alston

Hear the captivating story of “Six-Triple Eight,” honoring the remarkable Army Corps battalion of African-American women who served in WWII and recently received the Congressional Gold Medal. Renowned Narrator and Storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston, known for her work at venues throughout North America including the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Institution, and the Kimmel Center, will bring this essential piece of history to life at the Indiana Historical Society on Saturday, March 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. Choose from in-person or virtual viewing options.
