Downtown Indy, Inc. and IMPD to introduce“Safe Summer Nights” campaign to reduce impaired driving from Downtown Indy bars/restaurants

Summer pilot program to include a weekend Lyft station on Georgia Street

To continue attracting crowds while focusing on responsible decision making this summer, Downtown Indy, Inc. is partnering with brands typically associated with the bar districts to promote responsibility in regards to alcohol consumption. Those partners, in collaboration with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, will begin a new, pilot program aimed at curbing driving-under-the-influence through free/reduced ride shares partnering with Lyft on weekend nights this summer.

This broad partnership brings together Zink Distributing Company, LLC and Jim Beam to solidify their positions as socially responsible brands, connecting with Hoosiers in an impactful way. Downtown Indy, Inc. will continue to promote the businesses and nightlife scene in collaboration with IMPD within the area while Lyft will increase its presence and encourage responsible behavior.

The “Safe Summer Nights” program will run all summer long starting June 22 to Sept.21, 2018 each Friday and Saturday night from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.  Beyond the Wholesale District, coverage areas will also include Mass Ave and Fountain Square. A Lyft code will give up to 500 free (up to $10 off) Lyft rides each week from those coverage areas.  

“Downtown Indianapolis is a very popular and vibrant destination for the over-21 crowd,” said Sherry Seiwert, president of Downtown Indy, Inc. “We believe this new program with Lyft supported locally by Zink Distributing and Jim Beam will be a shining example of key alcohol brands coming together with a responsibility message that is both timely and meaningful.”

Cebronica Luft, market manager for Lyft Indianapolis, agrees. “Lyft is pleased to join these incredible partners for the pilot project for the betterment of our patrons and all of Downtown,” said Luft. “Providing these 500-free ride credits each weekend with our partners’ support is in line with Lyft’s commitment to ensuring that people always have access to a responsible ride home.”

Lyft Indianapolis will issue a new code each week for the duration of the campaign. Lyft patrons wishing to benefit from the Safe Summer Nights program should go to where the new code for each week will be revealed.
