Spend Mother's Day in Downtown Indy

Bring Mom Downtown for Mother’s Day weekend May 10, 11, &12.

Weekend at the Zoo
The Indianapolis Zoo is all about celebrating moms, whether they are human or not. Moms can enjoy a Zoo-wide scavenger hunt, photo stations, free treats and more May 11 & 12. Spring is the perfect time to discover all the matriarchs that call the Zoo home.

Great performances Downtown
Take mom to Phoenix Theatre to see The Children. Catch shows May 10 & 11 at 7:30 p.m. or May 12 at 2:30 p.m.

The Indiana Repertory Theatre is showing the comedy You Can’t Take it With You. Take mom to a play May 10 at 7:30 p.m., May 11 at 4 or 8 p.m. and May 12 at 2 or 6 p.m.

If mom is a film lover, the Indy Film Fest is the perfect fit. See one of 100 independent films at Newfields through May 12.

Spend a day or two at Newfields
Does mom have a knack for art? She’ll love the Newfields Adult Art Studio. Attendees can create art and sketch in the galleries, gardens or studio May 10 and 11 at 2 p.m.

Head outside and stroll around the gardens at Newfields from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. May 11 & 12 for Mother's Day at Newfields. Be sure to grab a make-your-own Momosa and gourmet sweet treats in the Beer Garden. Additionally, make a reservation for the High Tea with Mom that includes a five-course prix fix menu.

Catch a Concert
Take your mom to see Rock n’ Roll icon Tom Morello for his Atlas Underground Tour May 10 at Old National Centre. Or catch Grammy nominated singer Elle King May 11.

Get Outside!
Take mom to Georgia Street for Food Truck Fridays! Every Friday you can dine al fresco from  11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Everyone is a kid at heart at The Children’s Museum. Check out the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience with 12 outside sports experiences and three indoor exhibits.

The Virginia Avenue Music Festival is just in time for Mother’s Day. The May 9 – 12 festival features numerous musicians and benefits local Indy non-profits.

Learn a little history and wander Downtown during a Monument Circle Tour. Free tours depart from the South Bend Chocolate Company at 10 a.m. Saturdays, May through October.

Mother’s Day Gondola Ride
Old World Gondoliers is kicking off its spring season, just in time for Mother’s Day. Let mom be serenaded in Italian by a singing gondolier as she is transported to Venice on the Canal. Book a 30-minute public boat ride at 3, 5 & 7 p.m. for $30 per person plus tip. Private gondolas for up to eight passengers are also available. Reservations are suggested as the rides often sell out on holidays.

Great Downtown exhibits
The Eiteljorg Museum always has new and exciting exhibits. Stop by the museum to see A Sense of Beauty: Showcasing Power and Beauty in Native Art and Friendly Rivals: Creating and Collecting Hopi Carvings.

The Color of Style exhibit at the Indiana State Museum offers a new perspective on colors, clothes and incredible pieces from iconic Hoosier designers.

If your mom likes to cook, be sure to reserve a Nestle Inn Cooking class. May 11 participants can learn how to cook Thai food.

Celebrate the 500 way
The annual Salesforce & JPMorgan Chase 500 Festival Kids’ Day and Rookie Run takes place on Monument Circle May 12 from 12 – 4 p.m. Enjoy a free day of play in a carnival-like atmosphere including Bollywood-style dancing, paint you own masterpiece, make sashes with 500 Festival Princesses and more.  Sign the kids up (age 3 – 10) for the Rookie Run, too.

Lunch, brunch or dinner with mom
Downtown offers hundreds of restaurants to delight mom. Make a reservation and leave the cooking to the professionals.
