Take heart Indy: do Valentine’s Day Downtown

Bring your significant other Downtown for a night of dancing, dinner or live music this Valentine’s week.

Dine out, dance or do both!
For Valentine’s Day, grab your dancing shoes and your partner and head to the historic Fountain Square Theatre Building for Friday Night Swing Dance. Take a dance lesson at 7:30 p.m. then stay for live entertainment starting at 8:30 p.m. with some of the hottest swing bands around. Dancing only is $12 or $14 with lessons.

Party all night long at Howl at the Moon. Celebrate with your sweetheart for the Valentine’s Day Party. Enjoy drink specials, date night packages, live music and much more beginning at 7 p.m.

The Rathskeller is throwing its annual Love is All You Need Dinner Dance Friday, Feb. 14. This event includes a three-course meal starting at 6 p.m. followed by a performance from First Time Caller Band at 8 p.m. Tickets are $110 per couple.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with treats from the tropics including chocolate and coffee, all while enjoying the candlelit romantic atmosphere at Garfield Parks Conservatory. Sweets for Your Sweetie takes place Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.

For the 29th consecutive year, White Castle is taking reservations for Valentine’s Day at the South Street location. You and your date can have a night to remember for $30 or less

Renew your love
Stop by the Indianapolis City Market on Valentine’s Day for Share the Love wedding vow renewal ceremony. The celebration will include live music, Valentine’s card writing station, a decorative photo booth and cupcakes from City Market merchant Simply Divine Cupcakes. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. and is a free event, welcoming all to join.

Shows and performances
Nothing says Valentine’s Day better than taking your sweetheart to a concert or two. There are many concerts happening around Downtown Indy for Valentine’s. After more than a decade, Calexico and Iron & Wine have reunited and are on tour, performing at Old National Centre Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. with tickets starting at $25. The Motels are heading to Old National Centre for TOTALLY 80s LIVE! The band will be performing their biggest hits, along with Bow Wow Wow and When in Rome, on Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $20. Additionally Feb. 14, catch the Valentine Laugh-A-Thon with Rickey Smiley & Friends at 7:30 p.m. at Old National Centre. Tickets start at $43.

Impress your loved one by taking them to a breathtaking performance of Shen Yun. Featuring classical Chinese dance along with all-original orchestral works, Shen Yun offers enchanting beauty and enlightening wisdom at the Old National Centre Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9.

For Valentine’s weekend, share the love with ballet lovers. A red-hot duo from Indianapolis Ballet Inc. will be performing Love is in the Air: Rubies, Ania’s Song & Tango Forever at The Toby in Newfields. Catch these performances Feb. 14 – 16. Tickets range from $20 – $45.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra invites you to experience the classic romantic film Casablanca at Hilbert Circle Theatre Feb. 14 at 8 p.m.. The orchestra performs Max Steiner's score live to the film, enhancing every beat of the movie's noble heart with luscious sound. Tickets range from $35 – $95.

A unique twist on tough love
For all the tough lovers out there, celebrate the holiday at the rodeo. Fans can expect the absolute best in cowboy and animal athletes competing to be the “Toughest in the World,” at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo will take place Feb. 14 & 15 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20. There will be a free preshow at 6 p.m. both nights.

Create love-ly art
Roses are red, violets are blue, the Indiana State Museum has Valentines waiting for you!  Pop in the museum for the Be Mine DIY event on Feb. 10 from 2 – 4 p.m. Create Valentine cards for the special folks in your lives.  Staff will teach a few different ways to make unique cards and learn about valentines from the museum’s collection.  The price is $10; $7 members.

Get active
Couples who run can participate in the Be My Valentine 5K Run/Walk at the Athenaeum Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. which includes a new pancake bar, snacks, beer/wine, large fleece blanket and more, starting at $35. Runners can also try the party/one-mile fun Cupid’s Undie Run Feb. 29 at noon for $40 benefitting Neurofibromatosis. Everyone can participate in the Polar Bear Winter Classic 5K/10K. It kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Irsay Family YMCA at CityWay. Prices start at $40.
