Help us keep Monument Circle aglow!

For 53 years now, thousands of spectators gather Downtown at Monument Circle to see the most spectacular holiday display illuminate now called “Downtown Indy’s Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW #481. However, most of the electrical hardware and decor has passed its prime and shows great signs of wear. The time to replace and update the decor is upon us.

Our Cause

The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the centerpiece of our state capital, has been decorated with holiday themes honoring the citizens of the great state of Indiana since 1962. For 53 years now, thousands of spectators gather Downtown at Monument Circle to see the most spectacular holiday display illuminate now called “Downtown Indy’s Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW #481. Generations of families are drawn to this beautiful centerpiece each year with 52 garland strands and 4,784 colored lights strung from the top of the Monument to its base. Additionally, the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument is surrounded with 26 larger-than-life toy soldiers and sailors, along with 26 peppermint sticks.

The Circle of Lights stands as a testament to the joy and holiday cheer that exists with all Hoosiers as the Monument transforms itself into the most iconic and photographed image in the state. Millions of sightseers take in this brilliant spectacle throughout the holiday season. Travelocity named the Circle of Lights® one of the top five “must-see Christmas trees” in the nation and USA Today also listed the Circle of Lights® as one the “10 Best Holiday Attractions.”

However, most of the electrical hardware and decor has passed its prime and shows great signs of wear. The time to replace and update the decor is upon us.

How the Funds Will Be Used

Funds generated from the 2016 Circle of Lights Capital Campaign will be directly used to replace electrical hardware, sockets, lights, garland, cable, anchors, etc. for what we affectionately call the “centerpiece decor.” Additionally, decor surrounding the Monument is in need of repair and replacement, including the toy soldiers and sailors and larger-than-life candy cane poles. Plus, the campaign will address decor elements beyond the bollards encompassing the entire footprint and lighting of Monument Circle.

Our goal is to raise $500,000. Our generous parner, WTHR-13, kicked the campaign off with a $100,000 donation. THANK YOU!

Please Help Us

Enjoy the Circle of Lights and its decor – now in its final year – until Jan. 8.

Added incentive: For those who donate $100 or more, you will receive a holiday ornament made of an actual light bulb taken from the historic decor the campaign seeks to replace. These bulbs have illuminated the Hoosier spirit from Monument Circle for nearly 20 years — and now can live on as memento in your home for years.

Your donation is tax deductible.
