From festivals to active experiences, there’s something to delight every Indy enthusiast this August, and we’ve picked out our top 5 favorites:
1. Indiana State Fair
The Indiana State Fair will salute Heroes in the Heartland from Aug. 2 – 18 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Be amazed and delighted at the greatest showcase of agriculture and entertainment. These 17 days are full of food, shows, vendors, Midway rides, concerts, exhibitions, animals and so much more. Ticket prices vary.
2. DII’s Brickyard Pit Stop Paddle & Sunset Cinema on the Canal: Days of Thunder
Here’s your chance to race in the Downtown Canal. Form a team of eight friends, colleagues or family to race in pedal boats on the Canal in Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Brickyard Pit Stop Paddle on Aug. 22. The single-elimination race begins at 5 p.m. and will culminate with the top two teams competing for a fantastic grand prize. Be sure to hang around the Canal after the races for Indy Film Fest and Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Sunset Cinema on the Canal. Enjoy a free showing of Days of Thunder starting at 9 p.m. The movie can be viewed in the grassy areas or individuals age 21+ can pay $20 and receive a floating innertube (to keep) to watch the movie in the Canal, along with two Sun King beers.
3. Motorcycles on Meridian
One of the most iconic two-wheel events in the country, Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Motorcycles on Meridian, is taking over Downtown Aug. 24. Monument Circle, South Meridian Street and Georgia Street will be filled with the sound of engine roars and the sight of leather-clad motorcycle riders. All ages are invited to check out the unique FREE event starting at 4 p.m.
Don’t miss out on 11 days of nearly 300 performances during one of the biggest performing arts festivals in Indy. IndyFringe Festival will take over Mass Ave from Aug. 15 – 25 for performances ranging from drama to comedy to magic. Ticket prices vary.
Wrap up the month of August with Indy Labor Fest Aug. 31 starting at 11 a.m. Georgia Street will be transformed into a free-admission street festival featuring live music, food, beverages and a kid’s zone. Visit with working men and women from around Central Indiana and learn more about career opportunities.
5. Summer Sports
Sports fan? Then August is the month for you. Kick-off the month with soccer at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indy Eleven has games Aug. 18 & 25 with tickets starting at just $15.
Our Indianapolis Indians have 17 home games, Aug. 2 – 4, 13 – 18, 23, 24 & 26 – 31, with promotions every game. Tickets start at only $9 so pick a night and enjoy some baseball at Victory Field.
If basketball is more your speed, the Indiana Fever have five home games, Aug. 3, 10, 20, 27 & 29, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with tickets starting at $13.
