Downtown is ready for the start of the fall season with tons of spooky and sensational events lined up. Check out our top picks for October.

GermanFest at the Athenaeum 

Enjoy German vendors, Durstig Games, live Wiener Dog Races, Strong Man Competition, ZwergenLand For Kids and German beer and food at the Original and Fabulous GermanFest Saturday, Oct. 12. Discover your inner German and party at the Athenaeum, for the Athenaeum. 

Pacers FanJam & home games  

Get pumped for the Pacers season at the Pacers FanJam Sunday, Oct. 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, starting at 1 p.m. The first 6,000 people will receive a free T-shirt, hotdog, bag of chips and Pepsi product. See the team scrimmage, meet Boomer, the Pacemates and Pacers alumni and get your photo taken with Pacers players.  Be sure to buy your tickets to cheer on our home team throughout the season. The first regular-season home game is Oct. 23.

Downtown shows

Enjoy the many shows our performance venues offer, including Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof at Old National Centre Oct. 1 – 6, Bob Seger at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Oct. 5 and Xanadu at Old National Centre Oct. 13. Don’t miss the Heartland International Film Festival Oct. 10 – 20 with numerous independent films shown at Newfields. And these are only a few of the dozens of concerts/shows offered this October!

New exhibits

Check out new exhibits at Downtown’s best museums including First & Goal at The Children’s Museum, A MAZE D: The Puzzling World of Dave Phillips at the Indiana State Museum and You Are There 1915: Madam C.J. Walker, Empowering Women at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. Additionally, Newfields is hosting the inaugural Harvest Oct. 3 – 6 with endless pumpkins, hay maze, art making activities and more.

Halloween Fun 

October is packed with festive Halloween fun! If you’re looking for family fun, head to The Children’s Museum for events including its Black Hat Bash Oct. 5, Haunted House: Hotel of Spells Oct. 11 – 31, Track and Treat Oct. 12 and Sports Spooktacular Oct. 19. Other festivities include the Indianapolis Zoo’s ever-popular ZooBoo Oct. 3 – 27, Dia de Muertos Community Celebration Oct. 26 at the Eiteljorg Museum, Movies at the Museum: Hocus Pocus Oct. 26 at the Indiana State Museum and Monster Mash: Trick-or-Treat Oct. 27 on Mass Ave.

After family fun, hit the town for some adult fun! Events include Vintage Movie Night: Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man Oct. 12 at Garfield Park, Zoolala Oct. 24, Brew HaHa 5k followed by brews at Metazoa Brewing Oct. 26 and Boo HaHa…Beer, Bourbon & Bar-B-Q Oct. 26 at the Phoenix Theatre. If you’re looking for something unique, head to see Psycho in concert Oct. 31 at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra or the Science Fiction Double Feature: The Improvised Rockin’ Horror Show every Friday in October at CSz Indianapolis.
