With school back in full swing and cooler weather heading our way, there’s no better time to get Downtown and enjoy all that it has to offer. Check out our top five events in September!
1. Colts Kickoff Concert:
What better way to kickoff football season than with a concert? The Indianapolis Colts will host its seventh annual Kickoff Concert Friday, Sept. 6, on the east block of Georgia Street Downtown. The concert, presented by Bud Light and supported by Hank FM and Downtown Indy, Inc., will feature artists Renee Blair and Hunter Hayes with a special guest appearance by Indiana’s own Clayton Anderson. Blair will open the event at 5 p.m., followed by Anderson at 6:30 p.m. and Hayes at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public but requires a ticket for entry. Kick off Colts season right by joining in on the fun!
2. Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard powered by Florida Georgia Line
Ready, set, Let’s Brickyard! The Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard powered by Florida Georgia Line returns Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway along with a number of awesome events earlier in the weekend. Friday, Sept. 6 begins with the NASCAR XFINITY Series Practice. Saturday offers qualifications and the Indiana 250. Don’t miss the FGL Fest featuring Florida Georgia Line, Dan + Shay, Nelly and more. Lastly, be sure to check out the race on Sunday! Race fans rejoice and enjoy this annual tradition just a few miles from Downtown.
3. Monument Circle Oktoberfest:
Beer, pretzels, and bands… need I say more? In honor of the approaching fall season, half of Monument Circle will be transformed for Oktoberfest Friday, Sept. 13. Presented by the Columbia Club, Monument Circle Oktoberfest features both German and American fare. Tap into German tradition with us on the Circle!
4. September concerts:
September has a wide variety of concerts in store, offering something for everyone to enjoy! Old National Centre will welcome The Head and the Heart Sept. 6 & 7; Tash Sultana Sept. 7; Neil Young + The Promise of The Real Sept. 19 and The Band Camino Sept. 21. The Indianapolis Opera will revive its Opera in the Park series on Sunday, Sept.8 at 6 p.m. with the Fall 2019 Resident Artists performing along with special guest soloists Angela Brown and Daniel Narducci. Finally, Bankers Life Fieldhouse will host the Backstreet Boys Sept. 10; The Jonas Brothers Sept. 13 and Chris Brown Sept. 28. Grab a friend and go sing your heart out!
5. Circle City Classic Parade & Game
Join us at the annual Circle City Classic, a weekend of celebrating educational achievement and tradition of America’s historically black colleges and universities. Watch the Classic Parade alongside nearly 100,000 fellow spectators as the parade’s celebrities, floats, and marching bands make their way through Downtown Indianapolis. Stick around for the 36th annual Classic football game between Kentucky State University and Jackson State University. Both events take place Saturday, Sept.28, with the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. and the game kicking off at 3 p.m.
