Read up on a few of our favorite topics, trends and happenings this month – and use them to inspire your interactions with Downtown.

SOFAR SOUNDS | MELANIE SUDER, CREATIVE BRAND MANAGER

I’m not quite sure where to credit my love of music. Maybe it was growing up with a Juilliard graduate grandmother. Or maybe it was my family’s gatherings that always ended in dancing to an old cassette tape with a mix such as;They Might Be Giants, The Beatles, The Cars and The Talking Heads. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Sofar events in Indianapolis! See you there.

A DEVELOPMENT DEEP DIVE | TOM BECK, PLANNING INTERN

Do you enjoy staying up with the latest news, rumors and local opinions related to new developments of all types in Downtown Indianapolis?   all types in Downtown Indianapolis?  So do a lot of other people here in Indy – and a great place to read up on many of the current projects proposed or under construction is www.skyscrapercity.com. To zoom in on the local updates here in Indy – just go to the “Continental” forums, go to “North America”, look in the “Midwest” pages – and there you’ll find the Indianapolis thread.  Plenty to read  – and if desired, you can join the site and add your own thoughts and comments.  The more input and ideas – the better!

FIELDHOUSE UPDATES | HESTON HYBARGER, EVENTS INTERN

As someone who loves sports here in Indianapolis, I am very excited for the outdoor area and new entrance being added to Bankers Life Fieldhouse. I can see this area being a place for people to come together to hang out and watch basketball. Plus, with the location, I can definitely imagine Georgia Street Block Parties becoming an even bigger, engaging more members of our great city.

INDY ROLE MODEL | JENNIFER HANSON, SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

I’ve always wanted to write a book… maybe someday! This is why I love hearing about local authors finding success. The John Greens of the world are HERE, in Indianapolis, sharing stories with the masses. I love this profile on author Maurice Broaddus who serves as a role model and shares his skills with other local writers, making connections. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that new connections help all of us grow, broaden our horizons and make things happen. How can we connect to help advance Downtown Indy?

ITALIAN CONNECTIONS | JACQUELINE ECKHARDT, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF PR & ENGAGEMENT

My two week jaunt in Italy has me dreaming about the aperitivo culture. This pre-dinner drink/snack provides a cap on the day and a start to your evening. It’s all about the experience – and I thoroughly enjoyed watching folks mingle and connect over a light meal. It got me thinking about how food can inspire connection right here in Indianapolis. My favorite local spots are Tastings or Garden Table – what about you?

THE WHITE RIVER TRAIL | BEN EDUARDO, DATA AND RESEARCH MANAGER

The White River Trail was one of my favorite locations around Downtown Indy this summer. It goes from Riverside all the way to the Indianapolis zoo. As an exercise enthusiast, I like to run around the White River Trail a few times on a sunny day, and stop close to the Zoo for an outdoor workout.

SUMMER EVENT IDEAS | EMMA BENNETT, EVENTS MANAGER

Summer isn’t over yet – and I love this summer inspiration for my next summer gathering. Maybe that’s why I’m pumped for our next two Sunset Cinema events on the Canal.

We’re curious – what’s inspiring you this month? Maybe it’s the upcoming launch of the IndyGo Red Line, the awesome free, public activation at Lugar Plaza or a city you visited. Tweet us @IndyDT using #DowntownIndy.
